A day in the capital city
Vilnius
And 3 reasons why its Old Town is the best in Europe
I love old parts of any town or a city. Those cobblestones, wood accents of the architecture and pastel tones of the buildings always give a place an air of a fairy tale. The historic centre of Vilnius is no exception to that rule.

1. In fact, Vilnius Old Town is so pretty and historically significant, it is included in the UNESCO world heritage site list. Despite invasions and partial destruction, it has preserved an impressive complex of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and classical buildings as well as its medieval layout and natural setting.

2. Vilnius Old Town is an open and constantly evolving space which encourages people to live, work and express themselves through art in a way that does not diminish, but actually enhances its beauty and cultural significance.
A great example of this is Literatų Street, where walls are speckled with wood, metal, ceramic and other types of art dedicated to writers who lived and worked in Vilnius.
3. Is definitely food! Vilnius is a truly multicultural place created by and for foodies. Any taste and every comfort is catered for. From street food to Michelin star - you will never leave unsatisfied.
We really wanted an authentic medieval food experience to compliment our day of exploration of the Old Town, so Lokys Restaurant, one of the oldest in Vilnius, was the perfect choice. This restaurant is meat lovers’ paradise, but if you are a pescatarian, like me and Tilly, you will also find some great things on the menu. We literally did not have any space for the dessert, but everything else we ordered was really delicious. A complimentary shot of “999” was also a very nice touch ;)
Bonus - not really In the town centre, but the TV Tower with its rotating restaurant space is a nice place to have a cup of coffee and enjoy a birds eye view of Vilnius.
