Lithuania was made for keeping active and enjoying the great green outdoors
Kayaking and Paliesius Manor
A great way to relax, re-energise, re-balance and improve your wellbeing
In the last couple of months have you:

  • Felt constantly fatigued and irritable?
  • Felt unable to stop your mind from racing?
  • Had trouble sleeping?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, it could be an indication that some aspects of your mental and physical wellbeing could do with rebalancing, your might need a break and a change of activity.

Clearly, I am not qualified to be able to diagnose underlying health issues or give medical advice.
What I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt though, is that Lithuanian nature - the sparkly stillness of the lakes, the joyful birdsong at sunrise, the innumerable shades of green all around you - have healing powers.

And this is exactly what we set out to experience when we signed up for an activity day with the dynamic LitWild team at Paliesiaus Manor
We loved what our hosts have put on the itinerary and were looking forward to the day of new experiences:

  1. Hands on masterclass of bun making
  2. A guided tour around the manor
  3. A 3.5 hour kayaking trip down Kančiogina river
And we were definitely not disappointed!
Tilly was in her element learning all about the secrets of bun making and getting stuck in with making her own cardamom buns with dates jam.
And Daniel equally enjoyed the dressing up element of the activity!

Because Daniel and I visited Paliesiaus Manor before (check out Explore Lithuania updates on Facebook), I didn’t think that we’d learn that much more during the tour.
I am not ashamed to admit that I was very wrong on that point. Our guide Birutė was a very approachable and friendly fount of all knowledge, which brimmed with dates and facts relating to Paliesiaus Manor’s creation in the 18th century and its journey and transformation through the years!

After a wonderfully delicious lunch and a short transfer time to the point of our departure, it was finally time for us to jump into kayaks and make our way down Kančiogina river.
We have had the pleasure of participating in other activity days organised by the LitWild team before, so we knew right from the start that whatever happens, the next 3.5 hours will never be flat, boring or uneventful. We were excited to be at the beginning of an ADVENTURE!
I don’t think I would add much value by commenting on each of the photos. Just let the emerald green magic relax and sooth you!

In the end, this wasn’t an easy outing - the river dried up in places due to the hot summer, and we had to push and drag our boats across the shallow parts of the river bed.
We also keep underestimating Matilda’s fear of spiders, which was suddenly amplified for everybody when you are in a small kayak with her in the middle of nowhere and no possibility of just getting out of there. Despite all that we keep coming back, because the freedom, the fresh air and the beautiful surroundings are as addictive as they are therapeutic. And secondly, LitWild guys are wickedly good at creating experiences, not just itineraries, and we are hooked!
