The museum of ancient beekeeping
Honey Festival
This is an event that our family look forward to every year
Stripeikiai is a little village deep in the beautiful Aukštaitijos National Park. It is also home to a very unique museum dedicated to keeping the ancient traditions of beekeeping alive.

A special tradition

Every year on 15th of August the Beekeeping Museum opens its doors to thousands of visitors to celebrate the end of the honey season.
This date has not been randomly selected - it coincides with another beautiful celebration rooted in pagan tradition - Žolinė. This day is dedicated to thanking the Earth for the beautiful flowers and the bountiful harvests of grain, herbs, berries, fruits and vegetables throughout the year.

So the End of the Honey Season Celebration, or the Honey Festival, as we call it, is a well-loved local event that reminds us all of the importance of the humble bee, as well as showcase many other traditions, trades and crafts we may have forgotten about.
Activities
There are lots of activities for you get involved in and try during the event: from decorating a beehive to learning origami.
Crafts
Traditional crafts are proudly and lovingly showcased.
The Museum of Ancient Beekeeping is the only one of its kind in Lithuania, so definitely worth visiting any time of the year. But if you find yourself in the Highlands of Lithuania on 15th of August, I strongly recommend that you don’t miss this event!
