Rekindling my relationship with
Kaunas
Other than the airport runs, I haven’t been to Kaunas for over 20 years.
I know that spending just a day day in this city won’t make us best buddies, but I will treat it as our first proper date and will definitely keep in touch!

Facts and General information

Kaunas is the second-largest city in Lithuania with about 350,000 people and is considered to be the centre of Lithuanian economic, academic, and cultural life. The most student-centered city in Lithuania, it is located in the central part of the country and is surrounded by the two largest Lithuanian rivers: Nemunas and Neris. Kaunas is located 100 kilometers from the capital Vilnius and 212 kilometers from the Country's major seaport Klaipeda and is famous for its colourful history, cosy parks and the wonderful Old Town.

Even whilst driving across the city towards the restaurant where we booked our lunch, I could see that Kaunas is a picture-perfect paradise for photography enthusiasts. Elegant bridges, quirky colourful buildings, outdoor art installations, quaint church yards with photogenic sculptures - these are all of the things that I did not manage to snap this time around, but which I most definitely come back for next year!
What we did have time to do, is walk along the cobbled streets of the Old Town And soak up the chilled and friendly atmosphere around us.
Japanese snacks shop coexist very nicely right next to Lithuanian souvenir outlets and Irish pubs. And I was particularly delighted to see 2 large book stores hardly 200 meters away from each other - I was sure we were in the cultural capital of the country at that point!
I can’t post these notes without mentioning the fantastic Agave
Nestled among a row of other restaurants directly opposite the City Hall, it could actually be easily missed -thank goodness for Daniel’s research skills and specific standards when it comes to eating out!
Everything from attentive service to comfortable and cheerful Mexican decor and the varied menu, was just great.
We ordered starters, main courses and dessert and loved every single dish - fresh, authentic and just delicious. Matilda is certain that it is the best Mexican food she has ever had, which is why I have no hesitation in recommending it to others :)
